Why now
It’s the law
Québec’s Charter of the French Language requires commercial publications, including those on a website, to be in French (section 52).
It starts with a complaint
A customer complains, the OQLF asks you to fix it, then can order you to. The fine comes if that order is ignored: at least $3,000 for a business.
Customers can act on their own
Since 2023, terms of sale that weren’t given in French first can be voided at the customer’s request, without the OQLF.
