Bonjour CheckFrançais

Menus, packaging, signs

Does your menu speak French?

Take a photo. We show you every line still in English, with a suggestion in Québec French.

Your photos are not kept. They are read in memory, sent to Claude (Anthropic) to be read, then forgotten on our side.

What the law says

Packaging, labels and menus

Text on a product, its container or its packaging, as well as menus and wine lists, must be in French (Charter of the French Language, s. 51).

Signs and advertising

Public signs and commercial advertising must be in French. Another language may be added if French is markedly predominant (s. 58).

Brand names

A brand name may stay in English. Since June 1, 2025, though, the descriptive words around it must be in French. Products made before that date can be sold until June 1, 2027.

This is not legal advice. We show where French is missing; we don’t certify anything.
